PTE Academic is a computer-based test which assesses the Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing abilities of non-native speakers of English. It demonstrates their academic English capabilities to obtain admission at English-speaking universities and higher education institutions. The test can also be a proof of their language ability for a visa application. PTE Academic is endorsed by and the preferred test of GMAC, the owner of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
PTE Academic assesses Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing all via computer in a single 3 hour test session. To complete a PTE Academic test, you need to appear at a secure Pearson test centre. Candidates will be provided with desktop and headset for listening, reading and responding to questions. The exam assesses real-life and academic content and the accents range from British to American English. The test scores range from 10-90 and the candidate receives an overall score on this scale The candidate also receives individual score of their Communicative (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing) and Enabling (Grammar, Spelling, Oral Fluency, Vocabulary and Written discourse) skills.
